Sequences and Progressions

Learning Objectives

  • Define a sequence and use the standard notation.
  • Specify sequences by explicit formula and by recurrence.
  • Identify and work with arithmetic and geometric progressions.
  • Compute partial sums in closed form.
  • Model real-world situations (savings, growth, decay) using progressions.

About the course

An introduction to sequences of real numbers, the two classical progressions (arithmetic and geometric), and the techniques for computing their terms and partial sums. The course weaves in language-agnostic parallels to computer science: arrays, streams, recursion, iteration, and the analysis of growth.
